Ghanaian award winning Afrobeats and Rap artiste E.L has revealed that it will be a for the music industry to sit and watch whiles the Azonto music genre gets relegated to trends that once upon a time fizzled out.
Speaking on an Accra based radio station monitored by Beeniewords.com, the 2015/2016 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year said “Azonto is ours.. It hasn’t come from anywhere else but ours, so it will be shameful for us to let it just disappear or wither away”.
Just a few years passed, Ghana took the world by storm with a new music genre that come along with a special dance move.
Many thoughts the then trending ‘craze’ will last forever but that wasn’t the case, as many new dance moves and music genres have come to topple Azonto from it’s reign.
“We didn’t actually state anything that we were going to achieve, we said Azonto revival, we never said it was dead.. If it’s happening at a level which is not hundred percent you can always revive it…”
“We just wanted to click there and remind people that yeah Azonto still dey oo and it’s not over yet, something that we are still going to pursue” he answered when asked if his quest to revive Azonto with fellow rapper Sarkodie sometime ago was successful.
Many music fans will attest to the seeming ‘bad blood’ between E.L and Sarkodie as these two top dogs have set the blue print when it comes to rap music in Africa but according to him, there’s nothing like that because they have been good friends over the years.
“I don’t know why, I have no idea.. people translate certain things to mean other things and some people to they end up fantasising about certain situations… like they want this one to beef this one.. so I don’t know where that is coming from because Sark and I are very cool” he affirmed.
